My Journey to Yoga, Evolation and Self
My first experience at evolation yoga in Tampa, FL was a memory that will stay with me forever. Before I start explaining it in such great detail that you feel like you are living those moments and breathes with me, I first must tell you how I came to discover it.
Sweetness of Energy
My first yoga class woke me up! I practiced yoga for 7 years before attending my first class – an Ashtanga class. I felt like a child playing with my brother in the safety of our home. When I returned home, the gravity of what was missing from my sole video and book practice struck me. As my door to my condo clicked, my bags fell from my shoulders and I began to cry huge, happy tears.
Teach to Serve
Teaching yoga is not just going to the studio, standing on the podium in shorts and a sports bra, and telling people what to do for 90 minutes. Teaching, regardless of the subject, is a way to serve others and hopefully improve their lives in some way, whether it is a great improvement or a minute change. Teaching yoga is not only serving the physical body. To me, it is something much greater than that. While the physical body is definitely an important component, teaching yoga is a means of guiding other people on the path to Self discovery. The beautiful part about it is that it is an endless learning process. Every teacher is a student, and every student is a teacher.
Creating my Adventure
Three years ago, if you had asked me what role yoga played in my life, I would have said, ‘A minimal one. I don’t have time to stretch, and besides, I’m looking for a real workout.’ Today, however, my answer would be a very different one- ‘Yoga? It’s part of my life in so many ways!’ My relationship with yoga has become like one of those books I used to read where I create my own adventure depending upon which direction I want to take. Each chapter is up to me.
Yoga Teacher Training in Paradise: Costa Rica (#yogastory)
We have arrived in Costa Rica, to spend our last two weeks at a yoga teacher training in paradise! Excitement flows in my veins. What a place for the last half of our evolation yoga teacher training. In the morning I awake with the sounds of birds and the morning sun filtering through our window. When I gaze outside I see the lush and tropical greenery which surrounds the pond shaped pool. Our locale is an incredible tropical resort with green vines covering the façade of the apartments, huge bamboo and insects of all kinds. We are thrilled that the beautiful volcanic sanded beach is our backyard. In the evening we adore the amazing sunset and we dance and frolic in the water.
The Beginner's Mind
Do you know someone who is afraid to try yoga? Every day, many people walk through the door for the very first time, and many of them share the same fear — that they will be the only one who is “new.”
Yoga and Pregnancy
Regularly, I receive phone calls that start like this: “-My doctor says I can’t practice yoga this year because of my medical condition. What is wrong? “I am pregnant.” I am always so surprised by this response that I am silent for a while before I can find a response.
