truth practicing and teaching tips

Truth is essential for teachers and practitioners alike. However, it is occasionally ignored for a false sense of gain; usually by pushing our own limits (physically or mentally) too far. It is wise to recognize that very moment, bring full awareness back to the situation, and act truthfully.

truth practicing tip: Jeannie Savage, evolation teacher

To experience truth in your practice and allowing it to flow into your life takes awareness. It’s important to acknowledge that the truth can change. One day your body tells you, you can do more and the next your body says hold back, stay here. Allow your breath to be your anchor, to slow down, to see and hear what the truth is in each moment. Be true, hold true to yourself in those moments whether it is on or off your yoga mat. Be realistic with yourself and realize that shi(f)t happens.

truth teaching tip: Ryan McCourt, evolation teacher

Our most vital role as a teacher is to teach with integrity. To be there for the students and know that what we are saying will help each student in the room. That starts with truth. Every word that comes from our mouth needs to a cold hard fact. Set in stone and proven a million times previously.

There will be times a student comes up to you with a question and you will have a correction/modification that sounds like it should fit. Don’t say anything. Instead ask someone who knows the answer for sure then come back to that student with something you know to be true.

While you may be right most of the time, being wrong even once could really hurt someone. Your words are powerful, make sure they are always gearing students in the right way.

“Truth is the same always. Whoever ponders it will get the same answer. Buddha got it. Patanjali got it. Jesus got it. Mohammed got it. The answer is the same, but the method of working it out may vary this way or that. (115)”
