8 Signs Your Loved One Needs Urgent Intervention

Life can be challenging sometimes, with all the ups and downs. While most of us do our best to stay motivated when tackling these challenges, some may struggle to find a stable footing for themselves. As a result, they may find it difficult to maintain relationships, stay consistent at their work, and regulate their emotions whenever faced with a trigger.

While a family intervention center can help ensure any family-related issues are resolved appropriately, it may also enable an individual to find meaning and purpose in life. That said, it’s important to recognize that mental health conditions are complex. Due to this, the person may seem to be living a content life, even if they are struggling on the inside. To ensure you are looking out for your loved one and are there to offer support and love, here are the signs that should raise an alarm:

They Are Often Mentally Exhausted

Do you often find them mentioning how mentally tired and out of energy they are? Or do you see them canceling plans out of the blue?

Mental exhaustion can happen due to overexposure to stressful situations or being constantly alert. If not taken care of at the right time, the exhaustion can take the shape of burnout, causing your loved one to shut down completely.

Failing To Look After Themselves

When a person’s mental health condition starts spiraling down, they often tend to focus on only the necessary things. Also, they usually ignore their physical appearance and personal hygiene. If you see a drastic change in their ability to stay clean, engage in self-care activities, or even ignore wearing fresh clothes, it can be a sign of declining mental health.

Struggling To Fulfill Responsibilities

As the exhaustion from the mental health condition worsens, your loved one may find it challenging to keep up with day-to-day responsibilities. They may slowly start withdrawing from work or school commitments, show inconsistent performance, or even miss deadlines. This is often followed by not wanting to talk about how work/school is going.

Unexplained Disappearances

It is common for people with mental health disorders to start isolating themselves. They may find it more comfortable to spend time sleeping and watching TV on a loop. While it can be a great way for some people to recharge when feeling exhausted mentally, excessively engaging in these activities can make a person distance themselves from responsibilities and their social networks.

Withdrawing From Social Circles and Events

People struggling with mental health conditions often feel unworthy and unlovable and feel they are a burden on people. As a result, they tend to withdraw from social events, abandon relationships, and even have a lower frequency of attending events. While doing it sometimes after feeling tired is understandable, doing so all the time can be a sign of a worsening mental health condition.

Unexpected Mood Swings and Anger Outbursts

Mental health conditions can be challenging to navigate, and it is common for people to experience a surge of unexplained emotions like anger, frustration, and even disappointment. As their condition worsens, their ability to mask their feelings runs thin, making them more likely to react strongly even to the slightest of inconveniences. If your loved one has suddenly started displaying excessive mood swings, especially for things they earlier never bothered about, it can be a sign they are suffering mentally and might need help.

Losing Interest in Hobbies

As the mental well-being of an individual declines, their willingness to do things also takes a hit. They automatically go on a battery saver mode, engaging in activities just to get by. If you see a loved one suddenly stop showing up for classes they enjoyed or abandon a hobby without any solid reason, it can be that they are struggling and are limiting where they are spending time and energy.

Signs of Early Addiction

There are various reasons a person may start experiencing mental health issues, ranging from the circumstances they are in and even genetic factors. Therapy in today’s time is still a taboo that keeps people away from seeking help.

But to numb the effects of the deteriorating mental health condition, the person is likely to turn to substance or alcohol use. Looking out for signs of addiction can be immensely important in such cases.

Bottomline

Watching a loved one suffer due to poor mental health is heart-wrenching and, in many ways, makes a person blame themselves for not doing enough when they have time. By being vigilant and observing your loved one’s changing behavior, you can take the necessary actions to help them retake control of their life.
