My name is Lynda. I am a 34-year old French woman from Paris. The plan has always been to heal myself with Yoga. I have a disease called endometriosis and started practicing Bikram yoga almost 2 years ago because I knew yoga would help me to feel better in my body and make the pain go away. This is how my yoga journey started.
sweet surrender
Surrender. I love this word, however, in the main stream it is associated with losing a battle or losing control. It almost has a negative meaning. To Surrender in sanskrit has a different meaning.
Ishvara pranidhana – Surrendering (pranidhana) to a higher source (Ishvara). Beautiful.
learning big things from small gestures
There are a lot of reasons people practice yoga. It is somewhat simplistic to say so, but it’s also true. Some people practice to push their physical limits. Others come to find a reprieve from the pressures of daily life. And others come to find an even breath or a clear mind. I love all of those things about yoga, but the more I practice, the more I realize that I most enjoy some of the less glamorous little kernels of the practice: the silent moments before class starts, a slow, controlled entry into a posture, and the feeling of my breath moving in and out of my nose. Sometimes I am simply happy to not speak for a whole hour or more.
Finding peace amidst the chaos
When I first started my work with special-needs children an average day for me was typically divided into two extremes. The first half of the day I work with extremely active pre-school children whose diagnoses place them within the autism spectrum. Their autism often makes it difficult for them to communicate their needs and self-regulate; hence the activeness. The kids are full of love and they teach me a valuable lesson about life on a daily basis but there are many times when any sense of calmness shoots out the window and chaos quickly seeps in through the doorway. Whether we’re bouncing on therapeutic medicinal balls, exploring musical instruments, doing sensory activities like sand table play or painting, there is never a dull moment in the classroom.
