Featured Collective Story – evolation yoga Tampa
has anyone’s story shown you how powerful yoga is?
Yeah, my own. I first learned about yoga and the studio from the former director. I was bartering some bodywork for yoga. It didn’t take long before I was headed to teacher training in Santa Barbara. After returning to the studio I taught for about a year before I took over as director. Since I’ve been at the studio I have seen many other students go through this same experience.
why did you join the evolation collective?
Tampa was one of the first studios in the collective. Because of that we have had many years to support students and teachers, and the ever growing evolation community has helped facilitate many students in their journey towards teaching, and many teachers in their journey towards managing and beyond.
what would you say your secrets to a successful yoga studio are?
I think the studio has survived all these years because of the collective nature of the whole studio. Everyone loves what they do, and they are there to share their passion for yoga. From the committed yogis who keep our studio clean all the way up to management, and everyone in between, they all want to be there giving what they have to offer.
hat are your most successful classes?
Our HOT 60 classes are very popular because students appreciate the heat of the hot class, but the class fits into their schedule more easily. We have also had great success offering a 6am class every weekday. This class has opened the schedule up to students that have a 9-5 job and they can get a balance of hot and flow classes.
what is your yoga background?
I was the guy wheezing and trying to touch his toes in his first class. Thank goodness for the try and trust intention that is woven throughout this yoga. After practicing for about a year, in 2013 I attended the 250hr hot yoga teacher training at the old Santa Barbara oasis. I came home and dove straight into teaching. I have travelled around to teach a bit, but it is always nice to be back at home on the Tampa podium. I hope some day I can set aside two months for the 500hr training. Every level of the evolation collective from being a student, through teacher training, and then working at the studio, has been a wild ride. But I can’t imagine how I could of done all this without this community, locally and worldwide. I have just recently handed over the studio to two lovely ladies, Michelle Nunez and Amelia Cullen who are taking on the role as directorship. I wish you both the best of luck.
